Paolo Carai is a PhD student since September 2017. Previously, he worked as a research assistant at the Cardiology Department, Maastricht University as well at the Centrum for Molecular and Vascular Biology (CMVB) at the KULeuven, Belgium, since 2010. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Biotechnology from University of Genoa, Italy, in 2003. He further carried on in his education obtaining his Master Degree in Biomedical Sciences from Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, Italy, in 2006. After a post-graduate position as biologist in an IVF clinic in Bologna during which he learnt and refined his micromanipulation technique, he joined the group of Professor Stephane Heymans in November 2009. His current expertise includes the execution, management and development of cardiovascular pathological animal models with particular focus on myocardial infarction and viral myocarditis.
